Import Cuts & Stock from Excel in Seconds

CutWize lets you paste tab-separated data (TSV) straight from Excel to bulk-import your required cuts and stock. No CSV files, no file uploads — just copy, paste, and go.

What is TSV Import?

When you highlight and copy cells from Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or Apple Numbers, your operating system copies the data to your clipboard as Tab-Separated Values (TSV).

CutWize reads this TSV data natively. This means you don't need to export your spreadsheet, save it as a specific file type, and upload it through a clunky interface. You simply select your data in your spreadsheet, press copy, and paste it directly into CutWize. It's incredibly fast and error-free.

How It Works

  1. Open your spreadsheet: Open the file containing your cut list or stock inventory in Excel or Google Sheets.
  2. Select your rows: Highlight the columns and rows containing your data.
  3. Copy (Ctrl+C): Copy the selected cells to your clipboard.
  4. Open CutWize Bulk Import: Navigate to your profile in CutWize and click the Bulk Import button.
  5. Paste (Ctrl+V): Paste your data into the text area.
  6. Preview & Import: CutWize instantly validates your data in a preview table. Click Import when ready.
  7. Auto-optimizes: CutWize immediately optimizes your new cuts against your available stock.

Import Formats

CutWize supports different column formats depending on the cutting mode. Header rows are automatically detected and skipped, so you don't need to strip them out before copying.

  • Length Cuts: Length, Job Name (optional), Quantity (e.g., "1200", "Jones Bathroom #1", "4")
  • Length Stock: Length, Quantity
  • Roll Cuts: Width, Drop, Job Name (optional), Quantity
  • Sheet Cuts: Width, Height, Job Name (optional), Quantity

Job Names & Labels

Keeping track of which cut belongs to which customer is critical in a busy workshop. When you import cuts, you can include specific job names like "Jones Bathroom #1" or "Smith Kitchen - Top Rail" directly from your spreadsheet.

These job names are imported alongside your cuts and carried all the way through the optimization process. They appear on the visual patterns, in the workshop tracking view, and on the exported PDF cut sheets, ensuring your team always knows where each piece goes in your cut list example project.

Why Not CSV Upload?

Traditional CSV uploads are slow and frustrating. They require you to "Save As", navigate complex file dialogs to find the file, and then upload it. If there's an error, you have to fix the file and re-upload.

Our TSV paste method is vastly superior. It removes the intermediate file step entirely. Just copy the cells you need and paste. Our instant preview table shows validation before you commit, allowing you to quickly spot missing data or formatting issues right in your browser.
